She never left the party.

She was nineteen and she was dead.

For twenty-five years she lay under the concrete waiting for someone to find her.

When a demolition crew breaks open a concrete slab on Chattanooga's Southside, they find a young woman's bones, buried the night before the foundation was poured a quarter of a century ago. And Kate Gazzara catches the coldest case of her career.

The girl, a waitress working a graduation party at a powerful family's riverfront boathouse, disappeared. It was the last time anyone saw her. Six of her fellow partygoers swore she walked off into the dark and climbed into a stranger's truck. But she never left the party.

Now Kate has six people guarding a lie, a mother who never stopped waiting, and a family rich enough to bury this girl all over again.

This was a great story, what I really like is the author does not leave us hanging and we get to see what happens at the beginning , at the trial and afterwards. Kate and her team catch a cold case, they have to find out who the victim is after being buried for 25 years. Then they are dealing with 6 suspects who all have the same story even after 25 years. I love Sampson, he lets you know how he feels about each person they interview and he is usually really good at picking the bad ones out. I would recommend this book. I received an ARC and the views and opinions are my own.

Blair Howard you have done it again, another book that had me reading far into the night, Kate just gets better and better. The bones didn't belong to an animal, they were human, demolition workers were shocked when the concrete slab that they broke, uncovered the remains of what turned out to be those of a young girl, a young girl who had laid in her dark, concrete grave for twenty five years waiting for someone to find her. Crystal Marby was a home loving girl, they didn't have much money but she had an abundance of love from her devoted mother, a mother who still quietly waited, a mother who knew that she didn't run away. Kate knew that she had a battle ahead but I don't think that she realised just how big the battle would be, she was fighting powerful people, people with money, people with influence. Crystal had been a server at the graduation party of the son of a wealthy politician, she was looking forward to the party , but it was a party that she would never leave Six close friends, including the politicians son, all gave identical accounts of how crystal left the party, Kate didn't believe them, so what did happen to Crystal ? could Kate solve the puzzle or did Crystal's mother still have to quietly wait ? This book will have you gripped from the first page, you will follow Kate, her Brilliant team and Samson her trusty German Shepherd, as they painstakingly pull thread after agonising thread that lead nowhere, but Kate was tenacious, she wouldn't give up, a heartbroken mother was waiting for answers, Chief Johnson had her back but he was getting phone calls from on high, the pressure was mounting, who put Crystal Marby in her concrete grave ?......... my guess was wrong, well done Blair, another great story. I received a free copy of this and my review is totally voluntary

A 25 yr old cold case, Kate & her team are so good at solving these kinds of mysteries. Strange that the statements the 6 party goers told back then are still word for word after all these years. Looking for the weak link that can maybe be cracked is a big task but this team knows what they’re doing. Hopefully justice will be served for Crystal, Blair has done it again!

Customer photo review of Crystal: Case 26: A Lt. Kate Gazzara Novel

First off I received this book as an ARC reader for an unbiased review. Secondly, I have read 60+ books by Blair Howard and this author never ceases to amaze me. Crystal is a book about a 25 year old cold case that Kate and her crew are tasked with solving. Crystal’s body is found under a slab of concrete and Kate’s team works hard to find out who she is and who put her there- an almost impossible case to solve. So many suspects, so many twists and turns that once I started this book I seriously could not put it down. I highly recommend this book and thank you Mr. Howard for another amazing read!

Another new favorite from Blair Howard and Kate Gazzara - I think that’s 26 total now! In this one, Kate is confronted with a skeleton under an old construction slab that’s being removed. Starting with a “bare bones” 😎 investigation, Kate and the team use old school door-to-door techniques to start piecing together the case, following a hunch, and building a case, brick-by-brick, that will stand the test of a trial.

Customer photo review of Crystal: Case 26: A Lt. Kate Gazzara Novel

The Kate investigations keep getting better. Starts with bones discovered when digging up to build new building uncovers bones. Over 20 years old so much digging into the past to see if they can put a name and history to who this might have been. Will they be able to put the case to rest and get someone to trial. Highly recommend

Customer photo review of Crystal: Case 26: A Lt. Kate Gazzara Novel

Another great Kate book. This is a cold case. A skeleton found buried under concrete for 25 years. Kate and her team work hard to solve this whodunit mystery. This story is full of suspense and it is sad all at the same time. You will be surprised at who the murderer is. Definitely a page turner.

Crystal: Case 26: A Lt. Kate Gazzara Novel

I received an ARC and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review. The story begins with a crew breaking up a concrete slab when they discover bones of a human body. Kate and her team are called to the scene where the bones found are associated with a 19-20 year old girl. After the autopsy was performed, Kate treated the discovery as a homicide. The 1st step that needed to be done was to learn the identity after which they were able to key in to what happened 25 years earlier. The identification was made and now the team began looking into Crystal's activities at the time she was killed. Read along and learn what Kate's team discovered and how a trove of information that the original detective had accumulated set a timeline and provided names of individuals that were associated with the last event Crystal was seen at. Learn the script that 6 of the individuals repeated as they were once more interviewed. Discover what information was eventually learned that shed light on potential suspects. The ending is well done and all questions are answered. This is definitely a book worth reading, don't miss out!

Crystal: Case 26: A Lt. Kate Gazzara Novel

Lt. Kate Gazarra is tasked with a 25-year-old cold case when the skeleton of a young woman is discovered while a construction crew is breaking up the concrete slab of what is left of an old building. The discovery leads Kate and her team into a confrontation with a powerful city councilman and his friends. Even before her investigation is fully underway, her boss calls her in and tells her to be careful how she goes forward. He has already received two phone calls from someone higher up at city hall instructing him to close the investigation quickly and quietly. Kate is determined that the girl was murdered and secretly buried, then covered with a concrete pour. The story continues as she and her team work to find the person or persons responsible. Howard continues to weave a masterful story and provide the reader with another great read.

Crystal: Case 26: A Lt. Kate Gazzara Novel

Another great book from Blair Howard. It was interesting to go back in time to learn about Crystal and the events that shaped her story. I particularly enjoyed watching the suspects being narrowed down from the group of friends. Each of them shared the secret, but it had affected them in different ways. The story kept me guessing, and I liked seeing how the past gradually came together with the present. There was plenty of tension and some great twists along the way. I love this series and am looking forward to seeing what Kate does next.

Crystal: Case 26: A Lt. Kate Gazzara Novel

When a building is demolished, a body is found under the concrete. A waitress from a party disappeared and was not heard from again. Kate Gaxzara takes on a 25 year old murder case. Six friends at the party state the same story word for word. This is another page turning mystery with a huge twist at the end.

Crystal: Case 26: A Lt. Kate Gazzara Novel

Crystal: Lost and found. Lost for more years than she lived. Only because Americans have to have ' new' buildings all the time are we even able to look at Crystal's life. Because greedy rich people got careless while carrying out a crime, she was finally resurrected. Unfortunately, Crystal was a young lady, desperate for attention, love, money and wanted a future. The future she sought ended tragically because privileged residents from Chattanooga couldn't handle their liquor and didn't give a care about the 'help.' at a fancy party. Crystal deserves the five stars I gave her book. Unfortunately, she and others like her, never get a chance to see success like this author has.

Crystal: Case 26: A Lt. Kate Gazzara Novel

Kate's latest case seems like a tall order - proving that a body that was buried under concrete for 25 years is a murder and finding the murderer. But as it turns out, Kate and her team are up to the challenge. That's not to say it was easy. It took a lot of leg work and help from the detective who had originally worked the case. He had a box full of information that he had collected and the team ended up with 6 main suspects. This is a great police procedural as the team followed what leads they had while working under the constraint of not talking to any of the suspects (one of them a city councilman) until they had gathered a certain amount of information. I loved the twists at the end.

Crystal: Case 26: A Lt. Kate Gazzara Novel

I really do enjoy this series and it is so interesting to see how Kate has grown since the beginning and fully deserves her series. This can be read as a standalone but is better as part of the series. I always find the crimes that the author discovers so interesting as they are so far away from my real world it just makes it interesting and I just get into it and cant stop reading.

Crystal: Case 26: A Lt. Kate Gazzara Novel

25 years ago, a 19 year-old waitress disappeared from a graduation party she was working. Several witnesses claimed they saw her get into a truck and drive away with a stranger. Her name, Crystal Mabry. Present day … a demolition crew unearths remains of a dead female from under a concrete slab. Could this be the missing girl from the party? A cold case that reeks of lies and coverup lands on Captain Kate Gazarra’s desk. As her team searches archives, interviews witnesses, and delves into persons of interest, they’re left wondering who’s pulling strings to keep witnesses from telling the truth. Another challenging case that we’ve all come to appreciate by Author Blair Howard.

Crystal: Case 26: A Lt. Kate Gazzara Novel

I found this latest book fascinating about how Kate and her team was given a case. that was premeditated and now twenty five years later. A murder from twenty five years, working it to find a clue. Kate and the chief knew it require a solid case that the jury couldn't break down. I enjoyed this author's book and I recommend them, As well as the many others he has written.

Crystal: Case 26: A Lt. Kate Gazzara Novel

Cold Case of 25 years, this makes it tough to ID and get evidence. Kate is determination to get to the truth and solve the murder. As always a great story by Blair Howard.

Crystal: Case 26: A Lt. Kate Gazzara Novel

A 25 year old cold case comes back to life after a body is found in the concrete of a building  being demolished.  What happened at that prom party all those years ago? Kate will find out just what lengths someone will go to to cover it up.  It is a case of the rich and powerful against a working class family.   Can Kate solve the mystery and bring the guilty party to justice?

Crystal: Case 26: A Lt. Kate Gazzara Novel

I’m a huge fan of this author’s books and this one was exceptional. It grabbed me from page one and didn’t let go until the final word. This was probably one of the teams most difficult cases and the plotting of the mystery as well as the crime solving process was complex and engaging. If you’re not already a fan you will be once you read this book. I received an arc of this book and voluntarily provided a review.

Crystal: Case 26: A Lt. Kate Gazzara Novel

A young girl working a party never makes it home. Twenty five years later she’s finally found. Six suspects of which none can be trusted but Kate and her team work this case until they get down to the cold hard truth. Great book, very well written and I’m already looking forward to the next one.

Crystal: Case 26: A Lt. Kate Gazzara Novel

A 25 year old cold case! How's that for a challenge? And yet, Captain Kate and her team are up for it. A set of human bones are discovered under a concrete slab. First, who is it and then how did they come to be here. And once it's determined it's a young gal, turns out 6 kids, now grown adults, all have the same word for word story of what happened to her. Even after 25 years the story is the same! Tag along as Kate and her team pick apart the story to find the killer! This one kept me enthralled from start to end.

Crystal: Case 26: A Lt. Kate Gazzara Novel

I have read a lot of Blair's books. This one, I read through a lot faster. Not because it was an easy read, but because it kept me hooked. Kate and her team are handed a case of a skeleton uncovered from an old foundation that was poured 25 years ago. With a case this cold, how do you find witnesses or evidence when the identity of the victim isn't even certain? But Kate believes that you use what you have until you can uncover more evidence. And she trusts her team to follow every clue until the truth is revealed.

Crystal: Case 26: A Lt. Kate Gazzara Novel

The author has again presented a very interesting whodunnit when Captain Kate took on a case of a teenager missing for 25 years and discovered buried under a concrete slab poured right after her disappearance. A party for teens given by a wealthy stalwart of the community back then leads to a select group of friends who have collaborated to keep secret what really happened. Solving a twenty five year old murder is no easy task and her entire team spends long hours going after every possible lead and person who may have been involved. A lot of frustration is evident. Along the way, there’s another murder designed to further cover up what really happened. It does all come together at the end and you can look forward to some unexpected surprises. I think you will really enjoy this one as did I and highly recommend it.

Crystal: Case 26: A Lt. Kate Gazzara Novel

A 25 year old case. A body entombed under a building revealed when the building is demolished for new construction. The body didn’t get there by accident. Who is it? Who killed her? Kate and her team have to re-invigorate a very cold case. Are they up to it? Of course they are. I received an arc copy of the book.

Crystal: Case 26: A Lt. Kate Gazzara Novel

Finding a skeleton under an old building slab causes big problems. How do you figure out what happened when you don't even know whose skeleton it is? Kate and crew manage! It reached a point in the story where I knew who was responsible, but as usual, I was wrong. Well developed plot, well worth reading!

Crystal: Case 26: A Lt. Kate Gazzara Novel

This book was really great. Kate and her team have an interesting case on their hands. Who is the mysterious skeleton? Read this wonderful book and find out! I love all Blair Howard's books.

Crystal: Case 26: A Lt. Kate Gazzara Novel

Kate catches the coldest case of her career, and it is full of landmines. Nobody is talking, even after 25 years. Each of the group of six, is terrified still of speaking out. So Kate has to handle the politics of influential people that are suspected, and protect Chief Johnston from the fallout if the case goes public too soon. Old fashioned police detective work, one step at a time, is required to gain an understanding of what happened, and then finding the proof that will stand the test of the justice system. Sometimes you win and sometimes not so much. Money talks! A great and interesting story from Blair Howard that held my interest until the last page!

Crystal: Case 26: A Lt. Kate Gazzara Novel

Lt. Kate Gazzara and her team are called out to a demolition site where a dead body was found under a concrete slab that was poured 25 years ago. Kate sends her team out on different missions to uncover the identity of the girl. When they find who the girl was they find out she was working at a graduation party and left near the end of it and got into a stranger’s truck. They also find six witnesses with the exact same story that they all stick to. Kate also finds a weak link among the friends that mysteriously commits suicide. Can Kate and her team unravel the mystery of the death and disappearance of the girl before the rich and powerful stop them? Is the suicide really a suicide and is it related to the 25 year old case? Pick up a copy of the book and find out!

Crystal: Case 26: A Lt. Kate Gazzara Novel

A construction worker uncovers a skeleton buried beneath a building slab for 20 years. Kate must find out who the victim is and how they came to be buried here. A great who done it from the long running Kate Gazzara series.

Crystal: Case 26: A Lt. Kate Gazzara Novel

It’s a twenty-five year old secret. Demolition of a building uncovers a body under a slab. Kate and her team are called in and are starting with only bones. Dr. Sheddon is sure the body is of a girl and of what killed her ….. but not whether it was murder or an accident. And then there’s the pressure some rich and VERY powerful people. Who and what could make six people keep this secret and lie for twenty-five years? Join Kate and team to unravel the lies and secrets!

Crystal: Case 26: A Lt. Kate Gazzara Novel

25 years listed as a runaway. The detective back then knew it wasn't right. Now, Kate's team is on the job and looks to find out the real truth. This is classic Blair Howard. We have deception, deceit, powerful people trying to influence the investigation, and Kate's team working with facts and gut instinct. The story flows at a fast pace and includes the twists and turns I have come to expect from Blair Howard. Still, I was not heading the right way when the truth comes out. So, glad that he has decided not to retire Kate!

Crystal: Case 26: A Lt. Kate Gazzara Novel

Kate and her team are handed a cold case when the demolition of an old building reveals the skeleton of a young girl, First they have to somehow identify the bones, and then try to solve the mystery. As usual, the plot and characters are fantastic.

Crystal: Case 26: A Lt. Kate Gazzara Novel

What a great read! A young woman's body found after 25 years and Kate is determined to bring her justice. Her team does what they do best and the investigation gets rolling. There's no guarantee that this will be possible in such a cold case but Kate will not let go. Who of the multiple suspects will crack first and end this sad tale.
